Artist Statement
While I do not impose an exact interpretation of most of my works, each work is developed with a specific emotional frequency which may be expressed by colors and perhaps not the initial subject matter. My earlier works were inspired by the photographs and artwork of the 1950s pinup girls, but has evolved from objectifying the female figure to empowering it. My current body of work is moving toward exploring the manifestation of feminine and masculine energy outside of a sexual context and without objectifying the figure or defining individual or gender identity, with a background of god/goddess worship through a contemporary lens. As a figurative oil painter, I work in layers which allows me to achieve a luminous painting with depth that is a clear representational image for the viewer.
